AHS Graduate to Speak at Breast Cancer Support Group Luncheon – Akron News-Reporter

Breast Cancer Support Group Encouraging Sisters is hosting their fourth annual Breast Cancer Awareness Luncheon on Wednesday, October 5 at Otis Presbyterian Church, 181 Weld, Otis, from 12-1:30 p.m.

The lasagna will be provided by Miss Bea Havin for the Randy Hayes family in memory of his beloved daughter/sister, Jessica Hayes-Ishino. We kindly ask you to bring an accompaniment to accompany the lasagna.

Each year the lunch program brings a special guest and past guest speakers have presented on a variety of cancer-related topics.

This year’s guest speaker is medical oncologist/hematologist Francis Hall, an Akron High School graduate. Hall is a general medical oncologist with an interest in gastrointestinal malignancy and sarcoma research. He currently works at Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center at McKee Medical Center in Loveland and is also affiliated with North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley. He prides himself on being able to connect on a personal level with his patients, and he credits this ability to his upbringing in northeast Colorado.

In addition to Hall’s presentation, this year, testimonials from husbands/caregivers will be given.

Encouraging Sisters is the only breast cancer support group in northeast Colorado, founded by Akron resident Bev Stafford in 2011 and endorsed by the American Cancer Society. The first lunch was held in 2018 and has become an annual event, with the exception of 2020 when it was canceled due to the Covid pandemic.

The group meets the first Wednesday of every month at Cornerstone Coffee in Akron from 9:30-10:30 a.m. You can follow them on Facebook Encouraging Sisters or contact Bev at 970-580-4415 if you have any questions or want more information. .

If you have or have had cancer or if you have been touched by a friend or loved one with cancer, this lunch is worth the time to come and listen!
