Community Partners Campus inaugurates a new non-profit center

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) — The Community Partners Campus (CPC) opened its new center on Friday, which will house seven nonprofit organizations in the Wausau area.

The project has been in the works for three years, which CPC Board Chairman Brian Gumness says has been a worthwhile wait.

“All the hurdles we had to overcome in selecting buildings for the location of the site here, it all paid off in the end,” Gumness said.

The building has the capacity to house 8 to 15 non-profit organizations. One of the first seven tenants will be The Neighbor’s Place. General Manager Donna Ambrose says having this shared space will be a benefit for everyone.

“It’s going to be monumental,” Ambrose said. “Being able to come together and collaborate and brainstorm or even walk down the hall and get a suggestion is going to make us all stronger.”

Current tenants include The Neighbor’s Place, Blessings in a Backpack, Catholic Charities Warming Center, North Central Community Action Program and a free clinic, providing free medical care from Aspirus doctors and nurses, Marshfield Clinic

“To finally be here, he’s finally figuring out it’s time to go,” Ambrose said. “We are delighted and the train has left the station, so we are delighted to be here today.”

The ceremony featured feedback from board members and tenants. For Gumness, the highlight of the day was seeing how many people showed up to mark the occasion.

“It warms my heart that we had that kind of turnout,” Gumness said. “For me again, it’s just a sign of the support and respect this community has for what we’re trying to do.”

The campus is located at 364 Grand Avenue in Wausau. It is scheduled to open this fall.
