Cooperative empowers Kano State residents in poultry farming – Voice of Nigeria
As part of its contributions to poverty alleviation in the country, the National Agricultural Mechanization Cooperative of Nigeria (NAMCON) claims to have empowered as many as 4,572 people on modern poultry farming.
NAMCON Chairman Dr. Aliyu Waziri in a statement issued Wednesday in Abuja said the beneficiaries were drawn from all 44 local government areas in Kano State.
The statement revealed that the initiative, which targeted rural areas, is a subset of NAMCON’s Women Nurturing Birds for Wealth Empowerment program.
According to the statement, the goal of the initiative was to create jobs and raise the standard of living for residents of the state.
“NAMCON’s mission is to create employment opportunities and uplift the poor masses of the country”, he added.
Furthermore, the statement revealed that the empowerment program supports President Muhammadu Buhari’s transformation agenda.
The development, the statement said, would help Nigeria diversify its economy from the oil sector to the non-oil sector and promote mechanization of the agricultural sector.
