Dairy farming has the potential to strengthen the cooperative movement: Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal
In a bid to give a boost to the dairy development sector in Punjab as directed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Minister of Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal today met with the council of administration of Anand Milk Union Limited (Gujarat) better known as Amul.
The Minister expressed a strong desire to learn best practices from the “Amul Dairy” to benefit more than 3 lakh dairy farmers in the state. The main purpose of the meeting was to encourage dairy farmers in Punjab, associated with the 7300 dairy companies managed by VERKA, to adopt Amul’s innovative marketing strategies to ensure the added value of their products in addition to introduce new ones.
Emphasizing the concept of domestic dairy farming, the Minister said that this sphere has futuristic dimensions and its potential should be exploited to boost dairy farming, thereby strengthening the cooperative movement. “Women in particular should be encouraged to opt for this new concept as it would go a long way in increasing family income in addition to empowering them,” the minister said, adding that the dairy farming sector has the capacity to do better than the present.
Recounting the humble beginnings of Amul since the days of Verghese Kurien, MD Amul Dairy Amit Vyas further said that digitization in the day-to-day running of the institution is the need of the hour in keeping with present times. . “The focus, however, would be on rural areas because a large number of the population lives in these areas,” the DM added.
