High School Student-Run Nonprofit Hosts 2022 Launch Event | South Pasadenan

On Friday, August 5, community leaders gathered at Pasadena’s historic La Casita Del Arroyo to celebrate PTL, a student-led, student-founded nonprofit aimed at providing internships for all high school students. , especially in underserved areas. Each PTL Fellow who completes the program with a positive evaluation receives a $1000 scholarship. Those in attendance at the event included Pasadena Council Member Felicia Williams, Dragon Kim Foundation co-founders Grace Tsai and Daniel Kim, and other members of the PTL community.

This year, the organization has raised nearly $50,000, quadrupling its progress from last year, to fund nearly 40 internships that will continue throughout the school year. They have secured grants from the Dragon Kim Foundation and have received grants from organizations such as Himalaya Capital, AGBO, and GoFundMe.

At the event, past and current Project Talent Launch Fellows were able to share their experiences with PTL, including 2021 Fellows Devan Kelly and Bethany Chow as well as Ryan Galan Castellanos (Idealab), Logan Davis (The Office of the counsel Felicia Williams), Summer Yang (Asian American Professional Association) and Fnu Anu (Visible Intellect).

“[Idealab] showed me that everything I had been looking for was not as out of reach as I thought. Because of this, I feel more confident not only in my abilities to interact with people from different fields, but also in my ability to obtain positions in the future,” said high school graduate Ryan Galan Castellanos. In its second year of operation, Project Talent Launch has grown exponentially. Going forward, the team is excited to continue its mission of creating equitable talent pools by making meaningful internships more accessible.
