Laguna Beach United Methodist Church (LBUMC) will host a six-week bereavement support group beginning October 14 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Healing Connections, sponsored by Care Ministries at LBUMC, will be led by Reverend Linda Robison and Bruce Tunell and will focus on helping those suffering from the death of a loved one, loss of job or career, health problems or pandemic isolation.

The support group is open to everyone in the community.

Robison, who retired as senior pastor at Palisades United Methodist Church in Capistrano Beach, was a licensed marriage and family therapist before entering ordained ministry. She was also an associate pastor for five years at Aldersgate UMW. While in seminary, she trained as a spiritual director and earned her certification from the American Association of Pastoral Counselors.

LBUMC member Bruce Tunell was a volunteer grief co-facilitator with Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix between 2010 and 2017. Although this program only deals with the death of a loved one, he is fortunate that the group addresses d other types of grief.

“It’s important to deal with grief sooner rather than later if possible, as it will make the transition a lot easier. At the end of the day, it will have to be dealt with for its own well-being, ”said Tunell.

Participants are asked to get vaccinated against COVID-19 for everyone’s safety. Masks are also mandatory. Contact Debbie Gara at [email protected] or call 949-499-3088 to register.
