Man indicted for not paying co-op money

Police on Thursday arrested a 29-year-old man, Seth Simon, in Karu, Abuja, for allegedly deceiving the Goldmine Cooperative Society, Abuja out of N120,0000.

The accused, who resides in Karu, Abuja, is on trial for criminal breach of trust, cheating by impersonation and criminal embezzlement.

Mr. Simon has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Olarewaju Osho, told the court that the complainant, Rose Godwin from Kurudu village, Abuja, reported the matter to Karu police station on January 26.

Mr Osho alleged that the defendant approached the company for a loan of N100,000, with interest of N20,000, to be repaid in four months, which was granted by the company.

He said the company became curious when the defendant could not meet his repayment plan agreed with the company.

He said the company went to the address given by the defendant at Karu Market and found that he allegedly gave false information because the store he gave as his was not his.

The judge, Inuwa Maiwada, granted the defendant bail in the amount of 200,000 naira along with bail of a similar amount.

Mr. Maiwada has adjourned the case until May 3 for a hearing.
