One in three women detained for cheating in a cooperative society of nearly Rs 10 lakh

Two men and a woman were arrested for allegedly deceiving a Rs 9.94 lakh cooperative society by forgery in the Latur district of Maharashtra, police said on Wednesday.

The two arrested men were identified as Prashant Veerapakshappa Saidapure (27) and Sidram Ganpat Sathe (27) and a 25-year-old woman, an official said.

“The trio tricked the Latur Telecommunication Employee Cooperative Society of Rs 9.94 lakh into forging the signatures of its manager on checks after stealing them from the company’s office,” said Deputy Police Inspector Prashant Londhe.

A case of fraud was registered on the basis of the complaint filed by the administrator of the cooperative society Jeevan Jadhav, he said.

According to the complaint, Saidapure was a contractual employee of the cooperative society. He had stolen five checks from the office of the company and forged the director’s signature and fraudulently withdrew an amount of Rs 9.94 lakh on behalf of people who are not members of the cooperative.

According to the complaint, a case was registered at Gandhi chowk police station under sections 379 of the IPC (theft), 420 (deception), 467, 468, 471 (all relating to counterfeiting), 34 (intention common).
