William & Janet Strickler non-profit center maintains operations while beginning renovation project

Work recently began on a renovation project inside the William & Janet Strickler Nonprofit Center (WJSNC), located at 1114 W. High Street in Mt. Nice.

The nearly $ 300,000 renovation project will bring WJSNC into compliance with applicable building and fire codes, reconfigure interior space to support tenant agency activities, and add a fire safety system, as well as ‘a variety of other enhancements such as shared conferencing. room space for use by tenant organizations.

The renovation project was part of a $ 1.1 million fundraising campaign led by the Mt. Pleasant Area Community Foundation which also funded the purchase of the 17,760 square foot building in 2019.

The completion of the renovation works is scheduled for late 2020. Konwinski Construction of Mt. Pleasant acts as a general contractor. Agencies are still operational, due to social distancing and security requirements, each agency has adjusted the times and dates listed on their individual websites.

“This renovation project will create a safe, modern home for organizations working hard to break the cycle of poverty in our community,” said WJSNC Board Chair Robert Powell. “We are very grateful to everyone who gave the time, energy and money to make this project and center a reality for Isabella County.”

SNC’s mission is to foster strong collaboration between leading social service organizations by developing shared physical space and cooperative interactions to meet the needs of residents of Isabella County living in poverty or near poverty. The WJSNC, itself a non-profit organization, is home to The Care Store, Clothing, INC, Community Compassion Network and AARP Foundation SCSEP
