Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise (MAFSE). recently recognizing the work of the Nago Bank Cooperative “Los Pequeños Agricultores y Ganaderos de Nago Bank” (Cooperative of Small Farmers and Herders Nago Bank).
MAFSE reiterated that the Nago Bank cooperative is both a men’s and women’s cooperative.
The Los Pequeños Agricultores y Ganaderos de Nago Bank cooperative is currently harvesting tomatoes.
“The Belize District area around Maskall and Bomba, both on the Old Northern Route, is one of the most productive areas in the country for vegetable crops. The area produces onions, tomatoes, carrots, peppers and various other crops,” MAFSE said.
Stating that Nago Bank is a fertile production area around Bomba, MAFSE said tomatoes are in season and members of the Los Pequeños Agricultores y Ganaderos de Nago Bank cooperative are harvesting tomatoes and doing well.
“Tomato prices tend to be mainly determined by supply; they currently retail in the market for about $2.50 a pound. Farmgate prices (buying directly from the farmer on his farm) could be better,” MAFSE said.
